How to Spot Fake MicroSD Cards Before You Buy

Fake microSD Cards Are Everywhere! 9 Ways to Spot One: That cheap 1TB microSD card online might look like a bargain, but could it be hiding a nasty surprise? Counterfeit cards can report fake storage capacities, run slowly or corrupt your files.

Check the Seller First: Buy from the manufacturer's official store or an authorised retailer, because unfamiliar sellers offering unbelievable discounts can put your data at risk.

Don't Ignore Suspiciously Low Prices: If a card costs far less than comparable models with the same capacity and speed rating, treat the deal as a warning sign rather than an instant bargain.

Inspect the Packaging Carefully: Look for spelling mistakes, blurry printing, incorrect logos, damaged seals or missing product information, all of which can indicate a counterfeit product.

Examine the Card's Markings: Check the printed brand, capacity and speed-class symbols against the manufacturer's official product information, and be suspicious of inconsistent labels or unusual finishes.

Verify the Exact Model: Compare the model number and specifications on the packaging with the manufacturer's official website, because counterfeit listings may use invented product names or misleading specifications.

Test the Actual Storage Capacity: Use a trusted capacity-testing tool on a computer to write and verify data across the card, because fake cards may claim 256GB or 1TB while holding far less.

Check the Transfer Speed: Run a reliable speed test and compare the results with the card's advertised performance, remembering that readers, devices and file sizes can affect measured speeds.

Watch for Missing or Corrupted Files: A counterfeit card may appear to work initially but overwrite older files or corrupt new data when its real storage limit is exceeded, so back up important content.
