The Tampa Bay Rays are headed to the World Series for the third time in franchise history after securing a 7-3 victory over the Cleveland Guardians in Game 6 of the ALCS — claiming a 4-2 series victory. The Rays finished with the best record in the American League, and they carried over that level of play into the postseason, making them a much-deserving winner of the pennant.
It was once again a team effort that carried the Rays home. But there might not have been a bigger at-bat in Game 6 than Junior Caminero’s face-off against Guardians closer Cade Smith. With the Rays up by just two, 3-1, Caminero launched a long ball to left field, hitting the foul pole for a two-run home run to give Tampa Bay a 5-1 lead. This would prove to be crucial considering that the Guardians would end up scoring two runs on the very next inning.
Caminero was feeling the excitement and hype after the Rays advanced to the World Series to face the Milwaukee Brewers. In his postgame interview, the 23-year-old slugging third baseman let it all out and dedicated this latest achievement to the loyal Tampa Bay fans who have stuck with the franchise through thick and thin.

“Tampa is the best. Tampa gave me the opportunity to play here. Tampa, this is for you!” Caminero channeled a bit of his inner LeBron James with that proclamation, via the official MLB account on X.

This series victory over the Guardians also has to feel very satisfying on a personal level for Caminero. After all, it was the Guardians, then named the Indians, who signed him as an amateur free agent back in 2019.
But he would play in just one season for that organization before they traded him to the Rays for reliever Tobias Myers. This would prove to be a disaster considering that Myers didn’t even pitch at all for Cleveland’s big-league side.
Now, Caminero has blossomed into a full-blown superstar for the Rays, who are now just four wins away for securing their first World Series title — giving him the most satisfying revenge.
