Workers are completing guardrails and bridges, and overhead signs were being installed last week.
The lines have been painted on the majority of the last section of road, with only small stretches remaining.
The $30 million contract to complete the Team Gushue Highway was awarded to Bursey Excavating and Development Inc. in September 2024.

The highway will finally provide a more direct route for commuters who travel across St. John’s between the Southern Shore highway and the east end of the capital city.

The project has been in the works for decades, with the first phase — the Outer Ring Road to Kenmount Road — opening in 2006, and the second phase — Kenmount Road to Topsail Road — opening in 2018.

A spokesperson for the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure was unable to provide an exact opening date but said an official ceremony is being planned.
