Washington Commanders running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt was already ruled out for Monday night's primetime matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.
But just hours before kickoff, the team took that decision a step further with a move to the injured reserve.
Croskey-Merritt, who re-injured his groin during the Commanders' Week 5 tie with the New York Giants, will now miss at least the next four games on IR.
Croskey-Merritt is the Commanders' leading rusher so far in 2026, taking 67 carries for 239 yards and two touchdowns. Veteran RB Rachaad White is the team's next most productive running back option, rushing for 118 yards to go along with 53 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown.
Quarterback Jayden Daniels is the team's second-leading rusher with 203 yards through his three game appearances.
White now slots into Washington's starting running back role, followed by backups Austin Ekeler and Jeremy McNichols.
The Commanders are 1-3-1 to open up the 2026 NFL season. On Monday night, they face a difficult matchup against the 5-0 49ers.
