Guwahati, Oct 14: The death of a young woman in Assam’s Lumding has triggered shock, with allegations of physical and mental abuse emerging in a social media post reportedly shared before her death.
The deceased, identified as Soporna Debnath, daughter of Uttam Debnath and a resident of Itabhata Chariali in Lumding, allegedly died by suicide at her residence on Tuesday.
Before her death, Soporna reportedly shared an Instagram post detailing her relationship with Rohit Das, a resident of Hariomtila in Lumding. In the post, she allegedly accused him of subjecting her to physical and mental abuse and humiliating her during their relationship.
She also reportedly alleged that she had undergone abortions twice during the relationship. The post further accused Das’s family of supporting him despite the alleged abuse.
Following her death, Soporna’s family lodged a complaint at Lumding Police Station, seeking action in connection with the incident.
Lumding Police have reportedly launched a search for the accused and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
