A customized artificial intelligence service that guides workers through complex construction manuals and technical standards in real time is being put to work at building sites.
BS Hanyang said on Oct. 15 that it has developed its own AI agent specialized in technical support for construction sites, named B-ON, and has begun full-scale operation.
Built on Microsoft's Copilot, B-ON has been trained on technical data the company has accumulated over the years, including construction manuals for each work type, construction guidelines, structural design guidelines and standard construction drawings. It searches that material to present the technical standards that fit a field worker's query. Unlike the company's existing in-house chatbot, which handled routine administrative support such as human resources, general affairs and information technology, B-ON focuses directly on on-site construction standards covering architecture, structures, mechanical equipment, electrical equipment and ancillary civil works.
While general commercial AI tools offer only conventional standards, B-ON also applies the stricter technical criteria that BS Hanyang uses internally. To ease concerns at work sites about the reliability of AI-generated information, the system displays the name of the source document and the relevant page number alongside each answer, and includes a shortcut function that lets users open the related material immediately.
The project began with an effort to consolidate technical materials scattered across the company. BS Hanyang had already operated a manual platform for mechanical and electrical work and a generative AI chatbot, but the documents were spread across multiple systems and so voluminous that workers struggled to find what they needed in time. The company set up a dedicated task force to register the technical materials in one place, and had engineers from its technical divisions take part in the development themselves rather than outsourcing the work, raising in-house AI capabilities.
BS Hanyang expects B-ON to improve day-to-day efficiency while helping new hires build skills faster and turning in-house construction know-how into a company asset, an approach it describes as systematizing knowledge assets. After training field staff this month, the company will expand the system to all of its work sites. The project was also carried out in step with BS Group's push for AI-driven management, which includes infrastructure expansion such as the AI computing center and data center park being built at Solaseado in Haenam.
"B-ON is a system that lets our people check and use the technical standards and field know-how we have built up, anytime and anywhere, through AI," an official at BS Hanyang said. "In line with BS Group's AI management direction, we will keep expanding field-centered use of AI to further strengthen our competitiveness in quality and safety."
