Jakarta (ANTARA) - Culture Minister Fadli Zon said the 2026 Jakarta Film Week (JFW) was able to serve as a platform to open up networks for Indonesian filmmakers.
"Through this opportunity, the network of Indonesian filmmakers is growing wider with the many filmmakers who attended," Zon said in a press statement here on Friday.
He also cited the presence of Sammo Hung, a legendary senior Hong Kong actor famous for kung fu films, who is expected to serve as an example for building networks in the film world.
The Culture Ministry, he continued, supports the event, now in its sixth year, as a step to keep building Indonesia's film ecosystem.
He also expressed appreciation for the event, which runs from October 21-25, 2026.
He hoped the film festival will advance further while serving as a place for Indonesian filmmakers to share experiences, learn, and network, so Indonesian film grows and becomes known globally.
JFW 2026 Festival Director Rina Damayanti said that various countries are taking part this year, including the United States, France, Italy, Hong Kong, Japan, and Peru.
"There are 159 films from 59 countries, and it runs for four days," Damayanti said.
The annual international film festival was announced to run from October 21 to 25 under the theme "Encounter."
Damayanti said the theme for the 6th edition, presented by the Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Office and the Jakarta Film Commission, reflects the festival's full support for the vision of Jakarta as a Cinema City.
"When creativity and imagination have been ignited, they need a space to meet. Jakarta is the meeting point of cinema," Damayanti said.
Through the new theme "Encounter," the 2026 JFW is positioned as a meeting point for young talent, bold creativity, and collaboration between Jakarta's film industry and the international world.
