SEPANG: Two policemen who were allegedly assaulted by Malaysia Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain will file a civil suit to seek compensation for their physical injuries and psychological trauma.
Lawyer Kamal Hisham Jaffar, who represents both policemen, said the suit would be filed after his team obtained medical reports from Salak Health Clinic and Cyberjaya Hospital.
"We will file (the suit) in court within the next seven days. The claim will cover the injuries sustained, including the physical and mental impact, as well as other consequences arising from the incident.
"We are still waiting for the medical reports before assessing the case and determining an appropriate amount of compensation," he told a press conference today.
Kamal said one of the policemen had reportedly suffered trauma and required follow-up psychiatric treatment following the incident.
He said the impact on the victims should not be taken lightly, even if some viewed the incident as a minor matter.
He also said his legal services to both policemen were provided pro bono after they faced difficulties securing legal representation.
"We took up the case on our own initiative after they told us about the difficulties they faced, including financial constraints and the significant difference in rank.
"I stress that no fees will be charged to either policeman," he said.
Kamal also urged the public against speculating that the two policemen were linked to a syndicate or "counter-setting" activities.
He said any such allegations should be left to the authorities to investigate.
He added that the case centred on the alleged use of force against police personnel who were on duty, rather than claims about the existence of a syndicate circulating on social media.
