Two suspected bandits have been wasted by local hunters after collecting a N10 mmillion ransom paid for the release of a kidnapped man in Falgore Forest, Doguwa Local Government Area of Kano State.
The Kano State Police Command said the victim, 45-year-old Kabiru Aliyu of Falgore Village, was rescued unharmed after spending several days in captivity.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday.
According to the statement, three suspected bandits emerged from Falgore Forest around midnight to collect the ransom demanded for Aliyu’s release.
Aliyu was reportedly kidnapped on September 11, 2026, and remained in captivity until the suspects released him after collecting the ransom.
However, shortly after the suspects collected the N10 million and released the victim, they were ambushed by local hunters, popularly known as Yan Bula, while returning to their hideout in the forest.
“During the ambush, two of the suspected bandits were neutralised, while the third suspect escaped with injuries. The entire ransom sum of N10 million was recovered intact from the neutralised suspects,” the statement said.
The police said preliminary investigations identified one of the suspects killed as Dogo Isah, a commercial motorcycle rider from Maigwanda Village in Kubau Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The command said the suspects were believed to have travelled from Maigwanda Village before carrying out the kidnapping operation.
The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the Yan Bula hunters for their support to security operations in the area.
Bakori said the hunters’ activities had continued to complement police efforts to combat kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes under Operation Kukan Kura.
The commissioner directed the Area Commander, Divisional Police Officers and tactical teams operating in the area to immediately conduct a search of Falgore Forest and surrounding communities to locate the fleeing suspect.
He also ordered the teams to intensify efforts to apprehend the injured suspect and recover weapons allegedly used by the group.
The police said the rescued victim had been debriefed and medically examined before being reunited with his family.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged residents to continue providing security agencies with useful information.
