Footage of the incident, which circulated online, showed the man kneeling on the carpeted floor alongside other worshippers when he was unable to rise from his bowing position.
Rather than coming up as expected, he sank further towards the ground, his hands and head eventually resting flat on the carpet. The men praying beside him continued through the motions of the prayer, bowing, kneeling and rising, even as the man lay motionless next to them.
What Happened After Prayers Ended
Only after the congregation completed their prayers did those nearest to him turn their attention to the stricken man.

They moved him onto his back, straightened his legs and began attending to him, but it was reportedly already too late.
The location of the mosque and the identity of the deceased had not been established by the time of publication. The video drew widespread reactions, with many viewers questioning why no one had paused to help the man sooner.
Others took a more reflective view, while some Muslims weighed in on what Islamic teaching actually permits in such situations.
Jeks:
"We'll all die at one time, I think it's good to die peacefully while praying. Those old men close to him, do they want to say they couldn't notice something wasn't right with him and pause prayer to help him? God is a just God, He wouldn't punish them for it..it's sad tho, r.i.p."
Stray Cat:
"Nothing to be happy about. As a Muslim myself, this is disappointing and I keep seeing this a lot. You immediately check the situation and help. The prayer continues afterwards. In Islam, saving a human life and preventing harm takes absolute precedence over completing a prayer."
Donnie:
"Priest killed by falling cross and now a muslim died while praying. what is happening on earth."
Adigwe Nwadigwe:
"My Muslim brethren, let it be humanity first before religion…. We're human beings first before religious thanks."
The comment from Stray Cat captured what appeared to be the prevailing sentiment among Muslim voices online: that Islamic jurisprudence does not require a worshipper to complete a prayer at the expense of another person's life, and that those present had the grounds to act without waiting.
