Apple is reportedly working on a more advanced version of its HomeView smart home display, with a larger screen and a robotic arm. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the upcoming device could arrive in 2027 or 2028.
The new model may feature a 9-inch display that can move to follow users around a room. This would address one of the biggest limitations of the current HomeView, whose screen cannot swivel. Apple may launch it under the HomeView Ultra, Max, or 360 name, although the final branding remains unclear.
Apple launched the HomeView last week as its first smart home display. The device combines a touchscreen with a speaker and competes with Amazon’s Echo Show and Google’s Nest Hub. With this launch, Apple is entering a market where its rivals have already established a strong presence.
However, the current HomeView has some notable limitations. Its appeal largely depends on users already owning Apple products and having little investment in competing smart home ecosystems. While this audience may be larger than expected, the lack of a swiveling screen remains an obvious drawback.

According to Gurman, Apple appears aware of these shortcomings and is developing a more capable model. The larger display will reportedly be attached to a robotic metal arm, allowing the screen to follow users as they move around. The device will also be able to identify who is speaking to it.
Interestingly, the current HomeView appears to be an older product that spent a long time waiting for its software to catch up. Gurman reports that the device sat in warehouses for “the better part of a year” before its launch.
This could explain some of the hardware choices, including its large bezels, A18 chip, and 8GB of RAM. The product also faced several delays, with its launch reportedly pushed from spring 2025 to summer, then fall, and later to spring 2026.
The upgraded 9-inch HomeView, codenamed J595, is now planned for release in 2027 or 2028. However, Apple has not confirmed its launch timeline or final specifications. The new model is expected to cost more than the current HomeView. Still, its final price remains unknown, along with the official name Apple will choose for the device.
