KUALA LUMPUR: Brazilian forward Marcos Guilherme scored a second-half brace as Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) recorded a 2-0 victory over 10-man Pohang Steelers in their Asian Champions League Elite (ACLE) match at the Pohang Steelyard today.
The win gave JDT their first victory of the campaign following a 1-1 draw against Buriram United last month.
Three-time champions Pohang were reduced to 10 players in the 43rd minute when captain Jeon Min Gwang was sent off for denying a goalscoring opportunity after bringing down Shahab Zahedi.
Referee Adham Makhadameh initially awarded a penalty and booked Min Gwang, but overturned the decision to a free-kick outside the box and issued a red card following a VAR review.
Guilherme broke the deadlock four minutes after the restart, slotting a left-footed finish into the net after being played through by Zahedi.
Pohang attempted to counter-attack despite the numerical disadvantage, but JDT maintained pressure before Guilherme sealed the win with a close-range finish in the 89th minute.
JDT will host Thai side Port FC next on Oct 27.
