VATICAN, October 14. /TASS/. Pope Leo XIV has begun post-surgical rehabilitation after an operation to remove a cancerous tumor from his lung, his doctors said in a statement.
"This morning, the Holy Father underwent the blood tests and chest X-ray scheduled after surgery. The results confirm that his postoperative recovery is progressing normally: the values are within the expected range for the type of operation performed," the statement reads.
"The Holy Father has undergone respiratory physiotherapy and has begun walking around his room. He has resumed eating normally and had breakfast and lunch," the medical team said.
On Tuesday, the 71-year-old Pontiff, elected about 18 months ago, underwent surgery to remove the lower lobe of his right lung. An intraoperative histological examination confirmed the diagnosis of lung adenocarcinoma (cancerous tumor), as suspected from the preoperative examinations.
