The high-scoring Indiana Fever backcourt was named first team all-WNBA on Saturday.
Fever superstar Caitlin Clark and fellow star guard Kelsey Mitchell joined Tamika Catchings as the only players in franchise history to be named first team all-WNBA. Mitchell, who is set to be an unrestricted free agent, set several league and franchise records in her ninth season.
Mitchell had a league-record 27 games scoring 20 or more points. Her 1,086 points were the most in WNBA history for a single season, as were her 135 3-pointers made, games scoring 20 or more points (35) and games scoring 10 or more points (44). The league expanded its schedule this season to 44.
Clark averaged 22.3 points and 8.3 assists per game this season, her third. Her scoring average was third in the WNBA. Clark's season included more than 800 points and 300 assists, becoming the first player in the WNBA to do so. She had five games this season where she scored at least 30 points with 10 or more assists, which was more than the rest of the league in its history.
New York Liberty forward Breanna Stewart, Las Vegas Aces center A'ja Wilson and Minnesota Lynx rookie Olivia Miles were the other three players named to the first team. The second team included Atlanta Dream teammates Angel Reese and Rhyne Howard, Jackie Young of the Aces, Paige Bueckers of the Dallas Wings and Shakira Austin of the Washington Mystics.
The Fever enter an offseason of uncertainty. President Kelly Krauskopf announced Friday she would be stepping down from her role with the team. Later that day, general manager Amber Cox was fired.
Mitchell will be a free agent, Clark is due for an EPIC extension and several high-paid players who were limited in playing time down the stretch could be moved via trades.
