“In Milan, the skirt is the new T-shirt,” US Vogue’s head of editorial content, Chloe Malle, declared on The Run-Through podcast during a recap of the spring/summer 2027 shows. She was referring, of course, to the skirts – all 63 of them – that Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons sent down the Prada runway: schoolgirl pleats crafted from leather; knee-skimming slips of organza; skirts honed from floral crystal mesh; skirts with Velcro inserts, daisy prints, silken ruffles, jumbo sequins or unfurling corsages. So. Many. Skirts!
Malle’s words echoed those of Mrs P herself, who was famously quoted back in 2006 as saying: “The skirt for me is like a T-shirt.” For Prada and Simons, next season it acts an individual styling tool: a blank canvas and the basis of an outfit. But it’s not mundane, plain or staid – rather it’s patterned, paillette-encrusted and prismatic. It’s brimming with personality.

Daniele VenturelliNow that the shows have wrapped, stylists have entered the traditional scrum to secure the hottest off-the-runway looks for their clients. Danielle Goldberg has dressed Carey Mulligan in shimmering, pleated Celine, and Rosalía, Sienna Miller and Troye Sivan have all worn feather-festooned Erdem. Elsewhere, the stars are vying to be among the first out of the gate in Prada’s new season skirts… luckily, there are plenty to go around!
Among the first to be hemmed in? Brand ambassador Hunter Schafer, who wore look 35, a hot-pink pencil skirt with an elliptical print and a turquoise bandeau top, to a Comic-Con press junket in New York. Céline Dion was snapped during a break between sold-out shows at the Plénitude Arena in Paris wearing look 26: a navy knitted vest layered with a floral crystal mesh skirt. Then modern day Dashwood sisters Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles, promoting their adaptation of Sense and Sensibility, wore looks 32 and 43 respectively – Edgar-Jones’s skirt boasting a turquoise squiggle print, while Creed-Miles’s wispy alternative was layered over a zip-up check dress. Expect to see plenty more Prada skirts in the weeks to come – four down, 59 to go!
