Filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj has dismissed speculation that his upcoming film with Telugu superstar Allu Arjun, tentatively titled AA 23, has been shelved. The Coolie helmer said updates on the project will be announced soon.
The rumours gained traction on social media amid a lack of updates since the film was announced in January this year. Speculation ranged from creative differences between the director and the actor to budget constraints and an indefinite postponement.
Some social media posts had also claimed that Kanagaraj was moving on to other projects and might take the story of AA 23 forward with another actor. Kanagaraj’s latest post has sought to dispel the speculation surrounding the film.
On Monday, Kanagaraj shared a photograph with Arjun on social media, showing the two engaged in a discussion outdoors.
“Interesting updates coming soon (blast emojis) @alluarjun (fire emojis) @MythriOfficial @anirudhofficial,” the filmmaker wrote alongside the picture, signalling that the project remains in development.
Production house Mythri Movie Makers officially announced the collaboration between Arjun, Kanagaraj and music composer Anirudh Ravichander on January 14, coinciding with Pongal.
Announcing the project through a video, the production house had written, “A Collaboration that will be Eternal in Indian Cinema. Icon Star @alluarjun X @Dir_Lokesh X @MythriOfficial X @anirudhofficial STRIVE FOR GREATNESS."
Arjun had also shared the announcement video, expressing excitement about working with the filmmaker and composer.
“I SAY 23. Goin on a spree. Low-Key G. Locked in mentally. That’s a guarantee! Excited about the new journey with the Maverick @lokesh.kanagaraj garu. & at last with brother @anirudhofficial. Can’t wait for this one,” he wrote.
