Ganga Medical Centre & Hospitals and Ganga College of Nursing in Coimbatore received recognition from the Asia Book of Records for training over 20,000 students in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) across 10 colleges.
The ‘Bystander to Lifesaver’ initiative was launched on September 29, World Heart Day, and concluded on October 16, World Restart a Heart Day, with a valedictory function at Ganga Hospitals.
The programme aimed at equipping students with practical skills in Hands-Only CPR to help them respond to cardiac emergencies before professional medical assistance arrives. It was conducted in collaboration with the Nation of Lifesavers Collaborative, an initiative of the American Heart Association and the Regional All India Institute of Medical Sciences, along with UYIR.
More than 120 CPR training mannequins were deployed across the participating institutions to provide individual hands-on practice. Pre-training and post-training assessments were conducted to evaluate students’ learning. Those meeting the prescribed requirements would receive certificates from the American Heart Association, Ganga Hospitals and AIIMS.
The Asia Book of Records recognition was under the category ‘Maximum Number of Students Receiving CPR Training Across Multiple Institutions’.
Coimbatore Collector Pavan Kumar G. Giriyappanavar was the chief guest, while Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja was the guest of honour at the valedictory function. Faculty members and student volunteers coordinated the training sessions.
