The Polavaram Hydel Power Project (PHEP) has reached an important milestone with the commencement of stator installation and rotor assembly works in the first generating unit, which is a critical phase in the electro -mechanical works of the project.
HP-Genco (Hydel) Director M. Sujay Kumar and Chief Engineers P. Ravindra Reddy and S. Visweswara Rao, Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) COO Angara Satish Babu and General Manager Prasenjit Majumdar and others participated in the programme and reviewed the progress of works on Monday, according to an official release.
It was stated that the PHEP comprises 12 generating units of 80 MW each and that civil, mechanical and electrical works were being carried out simultaneously at different work fronts to meet the project schedule. The stator is one of the key components of the generator and plays a crucial role in the conversion of mechanical energy into electrical energy. As water drives the turbine, the turbine rotates the rotor and the interaction between the rotating magnetic field of the rotor and the stationary stator results in the generation of electricity.
The press release said the government targeted to make six units ready before the commencement of the Godavari Pushkaramsnext year and accordingly works on the power house have been accelerated.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sujay Kumar emphasised the need for precision during the installation of critical equipment such as the stator and rotor and asked the engineering teams to strictly follow the required technical standards.
