The stocks most heavily bought by high-performing investors at Mirae Asset Securities on the morning of the 15th were Samsung Electronics preferred shares (005935), Samsung SDI (006400) and Iljin Electric (103590), in that order. Samsung Electronics (005930) and SK hynix (000660), which had ranked first and second in net buying the previous session, swung to heavy net selling in a single day. With equities plunging on global artificial intelligence infrastructure debt risks and macroeconomic shocks, the top traders trimmed memory chip exposure and took shelter in preferred shares, secondary battery stocks and power equipment names.
According to Mirae Asset Securities, the stock most heavily bought through 11 a.m. by the "top 1% investors" — those with the highest returns over the past month — was Samsung Electronics preferred shares. The stock traded at 157,600 won, down 9.22% from the previous session at that time. The common shares, by contrast, plunged 9.48% to 210,000 won and topped the net selling list. Amid the sell-off in common shares, flows shifted to preferred shares, which offer stronger dividend protection. Samsung SDI, second in net buying, fell 7.95% to 544,000 won. Bargain hunting spread across secondary battery stocks, including LG Energy Solution (373220) (down 5.81%, 12th), EcoPro BM (247540) (down 9.53%, 13th) and L&F (066970) (down 12.29%, 19th).
The moves marked a sharp turn from the previous session, when the top traders had been buying Samsung Electronics and SK hynix. They appear to have shifted into risk management after the KOSPI fell more than 7% on the 15th, breaking below the 5,600 level. As of 11 a.m. on the 15th, SK hynix traded at 1,259,000 won, down 11.28%, ranking fourth in net selling.
Diversification into power equipment and defensive names was also pronounced. Iljin Electric (down 12.28%) ranked third in net buying, while power-related stocks including Shinil Electric (down 15.19%, 7th), LS ELECTRIC (down 11.46%, 8th) and Gaon Cable (000500) (down 11.87%, 15th) also drew heavy buying. SK Telecom (down 4.27%), a defensive name, ranked fourth in net buying. Among chip materials and equipment makers, FADU (down 12.54%), which had ranked third in net selling on the 14th, rebounded to fifth in net buying, while Techwing (down 17.22%, 14th) and Jusung Engineering (down 12.47%, 17th) also drew significant buying.
Large-cap technology stocks and names that had been among the most-bought on the 14th, meanwhile, were sold off heavily. Samsung Electro-Mechanics (009150) (down 15.87%) and Doosan (down 13.29%) ranked second and third in net selling, followed by TLB (down 15.64%, 5th), TSE (down 12.87%, 7th) and SK Square (down 11.74%, 13th). TSE and TLB, which had ranked third and sixth in net buying on the 14th, swung to net selling within a day. Stocks that gained, including Samsung Biologics (up 2.28%, 9th) and Samyang Foods (up 0.61%, 11th), saw profit-taking.
