The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) has said about 139 persons including 15 children died when a boat carrying migrants capsized off the coast of Djibouti,
The agency said the boat was travelling from Djibouti to Yemen on Thursday when it capsized near the port town of Obock.
It stated that 82 people survived the incident.
“This is a devastating loss of life. Our thoughts are with the survivors and the families who have lost loved ones or remain without news of their relatives,” said IOM’s chief of mission in Djibouti, Alexandre Coissac.
The agency said on Sunday that the earlier death toll of 109 was reviewed upon recovery of 30 more bodies.
Local authorities are reportedly making arrangements to bury the dead, while the survivors were provided access to medical care.
