CHANGWON — Electronic whiteboards will be installed in every classroom at elementary, middle and high schools in South Gyeongsang Province to close gaps in digital learning environments that have widened from school to school.
The Gyeongsangnam-do Office of Education's Institute of Education Information said on the 19th that it will supply electronic whiteboards to all classrooms at elementary, middle and high schools in the province by the end of February next year. The installation rate for general classrooms in the province currently stands at 66.2%.
The institute said it has pursued a phased rollout since 2023 under a program to replace classroom boards for future learning, but that the scale of the rollout was limited by budget conditions.
The provincial education office plans to use the full rollout to build a foundation for artificial intelligence and digital education, raising students' digital skills and class participation while supporting teachers in running digital lessons.
Ahead of the rollout, the institute will hold product briefings and demonstrations for teachers and staff in the province at the Changwon Convention Center from the 20th to the 21st. The event is intended to provide information schools need to select products, and 24 domestic electronic whiteboard suppliers registered with the Public Procurement Service will take part.
The event will cover product features and characteristics by supplier, demonstrations of writing software, briefings on defect repair and maintenance policies, and consultations on purchasing procedures. Promotional materials and videos will also be provided so that teachers and staff can compare and test multiple products in person.
"The purpose is to let teachers at schools see for themselves what the products do and how they can be used in class, so they can make fair and transparent choices," said Lee Hyun-jung, head of the institute. "Teachers will be busy with the academic calendar, but I hope many will take part and use this as a chance to gather product information."
