Sokoto State government has emerged as leading state in the Digital Literacy for All (DL4ALL) initiative, recording 58,573 beneficiaries and winning the Sub-National Digital Transformation and Institutional Leadership Award.
The achievement was announced at a digital literacy workshop, organised by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in Abuja, themed: “Measuring Progress, Strengthening Partnerships, Accelerating Impact.”
Data presented at the workshop showed Sokoto ahead of the Bureau for ICT and Digital Economy, which recorded 56,582 beneficiaries; Jigawa State Agency, with 52,814; Kaduna AGILE, with 45,758; and the Zamfara Agency, with 24,691.
The Sokoto delegation was led by the Commissioner for Innovation and Digital Economy, Bashar Umar Kwabo, who received the award on behalf of the state government and its digital ecosystem.
Kwabo attributed the achievement to the commitment of Governor Ahmad Aliyu’s administration to promoting digital innovation, developing skills and expanding technology-driven opportunities in the state.
He commended the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Nasir Daniya, and ministry staff, particularly technical officers of the Sokoto Information and Communications Technology Development Agency (SICTDA), for their contributions.

NITDA Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, delivered a keynote address on the role of digital literacy in unlocking Nigeria’s digital future.
The event also featured the launch of the National Digital Literacy Dashboard and discussions on inclusive access to technology, particularly for persons with disabilities.
Stakeholders from government, development organisations and the private sector reviewed strategies for achieving Nigeria’s digital literacy targets of 70 percent by 2027 and 90 percent by 2030.
