Some NH NongHyup Card customers were unable to use their newly issued credit cards because of a glitch in the card company's computer system, it was confirmed on the 15th. The problem stemmed from a failure in the non-face-to-face consent process required to activate the cards. NH said the affected services would resume in stages starting that day.
According to financial industry sources on the 15th, card issuance and use were delayed from last weekend because of the system error at NH NongHyup Card. Customers had to visit NH NongHyup Bank branches in person to use their newly issued physical cards. NH NongHyup Card said that "a problem occurred while we were overhauling the non-face-to-face issuance system, which delayed some operations, including new customer registration."
Industry watchers said the timing was problematic, coming as customer anxiety has mounted following a string of recent hacking incidents. NH NongHyup Card has about 8.45 million cardholders. An official in the financial industry said the issue was "that a card system error went on for days without being properly disclosed to the public."
