A Kenyan mother celebrating her birthday at home had no idea her daughter, based in Australia, had quietly arranged one of the most memorable gifts she would ever receive.

Karen coordinated the surprise from abroad, working with furniture delivery service BenExcel to transform her mum's living room without giving away a single clue.
The result, captured in a TikTok video that has since captured hearts online, was a fully furnished space complete with new seats, a television and decorative items, all revealed on her mother's birthday.
Pulling off the surprise required some careful thinking. Because the BenExcel team had previously delivered furniture to the home, the birthday woman already recognised the delivery crew, meaning a straightforward arrival would have given everything away immediately.

Karen's mum blindfolded
To get around this, the team told her they had brought a birthday cake and that she would need to be blindfolded to receive it properly.
She agreed, and even when she heard a truck being called in and asked why a cake would arrive in such a large vehicle, the team kept her guessing. She was already inside, blindfolded, by the time the truck pulled up.
Once the furniture was unloaded and carefully arranged, the team invited her to unwrap the television herself, as a nod to the occasion. When the wrapping came off and the blindfold was removed, she found a living room she barely recognised.
What seats did Karen's mum use before getting sofas?
Before the surprise, Karen's mum had been sitting on plastic chairs and had already laid a carpet in the living room, waiting for the day proper furniture might arrive.
Karen had even told her to expect beds first, framing the living room as something that could wait. That deliberate misdirection made the reveal all the more powerful.
The delivery team arranged the seats, mounted the television, aligned the carpet and placed decorative pieces on the TV panel to complete the look.
Karen's sweet words to her mum
A birthday cake bearing the words "World's Best Mom, Amazing Mom, Heaven Sent. We Love You. Happy Birthday, Mom" was cut before the furniture was brought in, with the mum sharing slices with her older sister and other guests gathered to celebrate.
Beneks Val, who shared the video, paid tribute to Karen for her loyalty and thoughtfulness.
"Thank you to Karen in Australia for always choosing us for your furniture and for trusting us with such a meaningful surprise," he said, adding that Karen had given her mother something truly worth celebrating.
