Police are investigating the sudden death of Nebbi Deputy Resident State Attorney Emmanuel Bumbi Naguyo, with a postmortem examination and laboratory analysis expected to help establish the circumstances surrounding his death.
Police in Nebbi are awaiting a postmortem report to establish the cause of death of Deputy Resident State Attorney Emmanuel Bumbi Naguyo, whose body was discovered inside his house on Monday morning.
Bumbi, 40, was found lying face down on the floor of his house in Riverview Cell, Central Ward, Central Division, Nebbi Municipality, after he reportedly failed to report for work and could not be reached by phone.
He is suspected to have died during the night between Sunday, October 18, and Monday, October 19.
His body was discovered by Jilda Obaru, an office attendant at the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) office in Nebbi, after he failed to show up for work and did not answer calls.
Police have since confirmed that the body was taken to Nebbi General Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
West Nile Regional Police spokesperson SSP Josephine Angucia said investigations were ongoing under Nebbi SD 30/10/2026 and Death Enquiry File 18/2026.
According to Angucia, detectives documented the scene, recorded statements and recovered ordinary and disposable plates found inside the house.
She said the plates had been packaged for submission to the Government Analytical Laboratory (GAL) in Kampala for analysis as part of the investigation.
“No arrest has been made yet. Inquiries continue into the matter to establish the exact cause of death,” Angucia said.
She appealed to the public to remain calm as police continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
Bumbi served as Deputy Resident State Attorney in Nebbi, attached to the DPP, the government office responsible for prosecuting criminal cases on behalf of the State.
Colleagues at the DPP office in Nebbi described him as a dedicated and soft-spoken prosecutor who was readily available to handle court matters.
News of his death spread across Nebbi Municipality on Monday, with members of the legal fraternity, police and judiciary expressing shock.
The postmortem findings and results of the laboratory analysis are expected to assist investigators in establishing the circumstances surrounding his death. Police have not announced any arrests, and the cause of death had not been established by Monday evening.
Burial arrangements had also not been communicated by press time as the family and the DPP awaited the official postmortem report.
