When a politician of any ilk makes a promise, it is critical not to take it at face value but think it through in terms of actual outcome. Brad Bradford promises to reduce the cost of our water by 25%. He is not offering free water for all, but saving X number of dollars per year. Perhaps with some tinkering with current practices this could be achieved. I am all for doing everything and anything for children. Full stop. However, Olivia Chow promising free lunches to students, saving families hundreds of dollars a year is misleading at best. Nothing is free. Those lunches will need to be paid for. How will that work? We will pay for them in the end. Why not speak truthfully and respectfully to all voters? This promise would be palatable if presented that a portion of our tax dollars would be dedicated to providing much-needed food to students in the GTA. Stop trying to distract people with that shiny word ‘free.’ It excites some but assumes you can fool others. Nothing is free. But with proper management, some goals can be willingly and transparently achieved.

(A little bit of transparency can go a long way. What Chow says is free is going to cost taxpayers but socialists never seem to care about that detail. in their mind, it’s free because it’s someone else’s money)
ALL THE SASS
Sad news to start October with the passing of female Canadian rocker Sass Jordan. She broke into the 80s music scene with the Montreal group The Box before embarking on a very successful solo career as well as being a judge on the Canadian Idol TV show. She really had her own sound with a raspy voice, like whiskey over crushed ice. I played her 1992 album Racine on many road trips back when cars had cassette decks! RIP, Sass. Thanks for those driving tunes!

(She had a unique and unforgettable voice. Sass Jordan was the soundtrack of our youth)
