The image, shared by Mayian FM on Facebook, shows Sifuna alongside other Linda Mwananchi movement leaders who had gathered at the Odinga family home in Opoda on October 15, 2026, to mark the first memorial of the late Raila Odinga, who passed away in October 2025.
Edwin Sifuna's seat sparks debate
What caught most Kenyans' attention was not just Sifuna's presence, but where exactly he was sitting, on Mama Ida's right-hand side.
Many immediately drew symbolism from the placement, with some suggesting it was no coincidence and reading it as a quiet signal of Ida's favour towards the former Nairobi Senator as a future political standard-bearer for the opposition.
The chatter grew louder, with users pointing out how relaxed and at ease Sifuna appeared, fuelling speculation about his standing within the Odinga inner circle.
"Kiti ya Baba," several users wrote, suggesting the seat he occupied was not merely a chair but a statement.

How Raila's first memorial went down
The gathering at Opoda Farm followed a significant national event, as Mama Ida and President William Ruto had jointly commissioned the Raila and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Mausoleum at Kang'o Ka Jaramogi, marking a landmark moment in honouring the late pan-African icon's legacy.
Sifuna, who has remained one of the most vocal figures in opposition politics since Raila's death, was received with cheers as he joined guests.
At one point, they had to temporarily stop the event as the crowd demanded to know where Oburu Oginga was to miss such an important event.
