A PROPERTY agent who lost RM60,000 to scammers suffered further losses of more than RM19,000 after being lured by a Facebook advertisement offering legal assistance to recover his money.
A source said the man, in his 60s, came across the advertisement late last year and contacted the purported lawyer to find out how he could retrieve the money lost in the initial scam.
“He was subsequently given another contact number for a man who would assist him.
“After contacting the man, the victim was asked to make payments for legal processing and related arrangements. He made three payments totalling more than RM19,000 to recover his money,” the source said.
However, the victim has yet to recover his original RM60,000 despite making the additional payments, and was asked to pay even more.
The source said those involved also refused to refund the money he had paid, offering various excuses when he sought its return.
The victim subsequently lodged a police report at the Presint 11 police station last Wednesday.
Putrajaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Aidi Sham Mohamed confirmed receiving the report, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. - October 19, 2026
