Marco Jansen claimed five wickets as Australia collapsed for 99 runs against South Africa on Wednesday. South Africa had declared their first innings at 425-9 on day four of the second Test at St George’s Park. With a 326-run lead, the hosts enforced the follow-on despite Anrich Nortje missing out with a groin injury.
Jansen struck immediately, dismissing nightwatchman Scott Boland with his first delivery of the innings. The left-arm fast bowler then removed Travis Head, Matt Renshaw, Alex Carey and Beau Webster. His spell left Australia struggling as the visitors failed to build a meaningful response to South Africa’s total.

Steve Smith top-scored for Australia with 28 runs despite needing treatment twice for what appeared to be a neck injury. South African all-rounder Wiaan Mulder eventually bowled Smith to further deepen Australia’s troubles. Jansen finished with figures of five for 33, while Kagiso Rabada claimed two wickets for 33 runs.
Mulder also contributed two wickets for 14 runs as Australia’s batting lineup fell apart. The visitors managed only 99 runs in their first innings, giving South Africa a commanding advantage heading into the follow-on. The hosts will now look to press their advantage and strengthen their position in the Test.
