The Ijumu Development Union (IDU) has appealed to the Federal Government and relevant agencies to rehabilitate the deplorable Kabba-Iyara-Iyamoye section of the Kabba-Omuo federal road.
In a statement by its national president, Ahmed-Ade Fatai, the union described the road as virtually impassable, saying journeys that ordinarily took a few minutes now require several hours.
The IDU said the condition of the road has severely affected commercial drivers, farmers, traders, students, workers and families who depend on the route for their daily activities.
It added that many commuters now use longer alternative routes through neighbouring communities and states, leading to higher transportation costs and increased economic hardship.
The union expressed particular concern about agriculture, stressing that Ijumu is predominantly agrarian and depends on good roads to move farm produce from rural communities to major markets.
“The road is not merely a stretch of pavement. It is a vital economic and social link upon which thousands of people depend,” the union stated.
The IDU recalled that the state House of Assembly, on September 9, called for urgent rehabilitation of the Kabba-Omuo road and urged FERMA to undertake palliative works. It also cited the reported June 2026 approval of a N24.7 billion rehabilitation project for the Kabba-Ifaki-Ado Ekiti road.

However, the union stressed that there remains a significant gap between announced interventions and the situation on the ground, particularly on the Kabba-Iyamoye axis, which it described as extremely difficult to access.
The IDU, therefore, called for clear information on the scope, status, commencement date and completion timeline of the proposed rehabilitation, while urging authorities to undertake immediate palliative repairs to make the road passable.
“The people of Ijumu are not asking for special treatment. They are asking for a functional transportation link that allows communities to remain connected,” the union added, urging the federal and state government, FERMA and elected representatives to strengthen coordination and restore the road to support agriculture, commerce and other economic activities.
