IMPHAL, Oct 18: The Manipur Naga Youth Organisation (MNYO) has accused the Assam Rifles of allegedly shelling a Naga village in Kamjong district with mortars and heavy fusillades.
A press release issued by MNYO alleged that the 11 Assam Rifles stationed 1 km off Chassad Kuki village allegedly shelled Kamjong Naga volunteers with mortars and heavy fusillades in a bid to shield Chassad villagers who have been allegedly harbouring KNA-B militants.
It said that three civilians were injured in the shelling apart from destroying two houses belonging to Chance Shithung and late Homi Chodang.
The protection bid appeared more like an attack leaving the locals Kamjong and surrounding areas panic-stricken. Such a trend of patriotism was hitherto unseen with AR when innocent Nagas were abducted, ambushed, butchered and their houses burnt down, and several Naga villages such as Ningchou, Pilong, Choro, Namlee, Wanglee, Sina-keithei, Litan, Makui, Tapon, Konsakhul, Cha-wangkining and Kazei- kaiphun were attacked overnight by Kuki terrorists earlier this year.
The incident of shelling followed when Kamjong Naga volunteers intercepted several KNA-B militants accompanied by Chassad chief lurking around Kamjong police station’s precincts and openly taunting the Naga locals with dance acts amidst tension.
A viral video clip showed a slain KNA-B militant with a typical star MNYO accuses AR of shelling Kamjong village
insignia on the chest as a glaring proof of the presence of external elements even as another simultaneous gun battle occurred at N Teikhang along IT road.
The matter warrants serious attention of the higher authority for an unbiased enquiry, it said.
“Condemnations from Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen are circulating in the social media flaying Naga attacks whereas several Naga villages in her constituency are continually pounded upon by KNF-P, a militant group led by her husband Semtinthang Kipgen. Nemcha Kipgen should resign keeping in view the conduct and nature of her spouse”, the MNYO said.
The MNYO has also condemned the State authority for transferring Tholu Rocky, SP, Kamjong on the insistence of Kimneo Hangsing.
But the Government has been conveniently looking the other way as far as the involvement of several Kuki police personnel in the Konsakhul kidnapping, killings and in indirectly abetting attacks, it said.
It further urged all concerned not to remain silent amidst the unjustified transfer of the Kamjong SP.
It appears that the Government has been appeasing trouble makers all the while, the MNYO added.
