Texas A&M's quarterback room could look vastly different this time next season, given redshirt junior Marcel Reed's regression and backup QB Brady Hart likely not being ready to take over as the starter this season or in 2027. That said, Coach Mike Elko will likely have to land a top-level signal caller from the transfer portal and pay a hefty price tag.
Plenty of potential names, including current Alabama backup quarterback Austin Mack and Oregon State QB Brandon Atkenson, are worth watching in the coming weeks and will draw heavy attention from several QB-needy Power Four programs.
Amid the Texas Longhorns' struggles this season, they lost two consecutive SEC games to unranked Oklahoma and Florida, and junior quarterback Arch Manning struggled in both, including passing for just 173 yards and one touchdown against the Gators' poor secondary.
This week, "That SEC Podcast" hosts Michael Bratton and Cousin Shane listed several programs that could pursue the former five-star prospect, including, you guessed it, Texas A&M, only if the Longhorns end up missing out of the College Football Playoff for the second straight year and potentially move on from coach Steve Sarkisian.
Arch Manning still has the arm talent to thrive in College Station, but Sarkisian's stubborn play-calling, combined with poor blocking up front, has led to Texas's surprising losing streak. Like former Texas A&M QB and Houston Cougars star Conner Weigman, Manning could benefit from a change of scenery in the NFL.
I highly doubt Texas A&M will be connected to Arch Manning if he enters the transfer portal, as Oklahoma, LSU, Ole Miss (where his grandfather and uncle played), South Carolina, and Tennessee are also potential suitors.
Which SEC school makes the most sense for Arch Manning next season?
