The Sudan Founding Alliance (Tasis) on Tuesday said it had taken full control of the strategic Al-Birka area and a military camp in Sudan’s Blue Nile region, amid conflicting claims from the Sudanese army and the alliance over the fighting’s outcome.
The alliance is an anti-governmental political and military coalition in Sudan formed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), and 23 other allied political factions, armed movements, trade unions, and civil society groups.
In a statement dated 20 October 2026, the Tasis Alliance said its forces had seized several military vehicles, weapons, and ammunition. The alliance also vowed to continue its operations to capture additional positions across the region.
Rapid Support Forces (RSF) field commander General Ali Al-Reno, speaking from inside Al- Birka, said his forces had established full control of the area after routing the defending troops and inflicting heavy losses on them.
“Al- Birka is the backbone of the Blue Nile region, and my forces intend to advance towards Damazin, the regional capital,” he said.
In a separate statement, the media office of the Sudanese army’s Fourth Infantry Division in Damazin said the army had dealt a decisive blow to RSF forces in Al- Birka, in the southern sector of the Blue Nile region. It described the operation as a specialized military action that inflicted heavy casualties and destroyed military equipment.
The media office said the operation demonstrated the Sudanese Armed Forces’ readiness to respond decisively to any hostile movements targeting its positions or threatening the security of civilians and their property.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, SAF General Jamal Al-Shaheed said fighting was ongoing, with clashes erupting in Al- Birka following an attack by RSF forces.
“The fighting continued until the following morning, and the army seized six vehicles and combat equipment from the RSF,” he said.
Gen. Al-Shaheed also said that, concurrently with the fighting in Al- Birka, the border area of Sali came under what he described as a large-scale attack involving a substantial number of troops. However, he said the Sudanese army and allied forces had repelled the assault.
