Football superstar Lionel Messi has ordered a 28.4-metre luxury catamaran yacht from Sunreef Yachts, which will become part of his MIM Ocean fleet in the Balearic Islands.
The yacht, known as the Sunreef Ultima 88, is currently under construction at the shipbuilder’s facility in Ras Al-Khaimah, United Arab Emirates.
Sunreef Yachts announced the order on Tuesday, saying the Argentina international had joined its group of high-profile clients.
Messi said he and his family had always enjoyed spending time at sea and looked forward to experiencing the new vessel.
“My family and I have always loved spending time at sea whenever we get the chance,” he said.
“Sunreef Yachts have the style and features I really like, and they’re a perfect fit for what I’m looking for. I’m really looking forward to experiencing the Ultima 88 and enjoying it with my family.”
The luxury catamaran has an internal volume of 280 gross tonnes and features a full-beam master suite at the bow, alongside four guest cabins on the lower deck.
It also has an Ocean Lounge designed for swimming, water sports and relaxation, as well as a dedicated Jet Ski garage, expansive outdoor lounging areas and a spacious flybridge.
The yacht will be powered by two 1,000-horsepower engines, while its shallow draught is designed to allow access to secluded anchorages and marinas.
Sunreef Yachts founder and chief executive, Francis Lapp, said the company was proud to welcome Messi and his family.
“Leo Messi embodies an extraordinary level of excellence, but what makes this new chapter particularly meaningful to us is what happens beyond the spotlight,” Lapp said.
He added that the company viewed luxury as the freedom to spend time with loved ones and enjoy the sea.
Messi joins other prominent sports personalities associated with Sunreef, including tennis players Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal, footballer Robert Lewandowski and racing driver Fernando Alonso.
