Did toppling the consensus No. 1 team in the land give Auburn football a number next to its name?
After beating top-ranked Georgia 27-24 on Saturday, Oct. 17, the unranked Tigers remain in the same standing as they prepare to host No. 17 LSU in Week 8, albeit with one difference in the latest listings.
Auburn is at least in the top-25 discussion, receiving votes in the US LBM Coaches Poll on Sunday. It was the fourth team out in the latest listing, meaning it would have been 29th nationally if the rankings extended that far. The Associated Press Top 25 will be revealed later Sunday.
In beating Georgia, Auburn won its third one-score game under first-year head coach Alex Golesh and matched its best conference win total since 2023, moving to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in SEC play.
The Tigers dropped the Bulldogs only three spots in this week's Coaches Poll, but they lead the way of nine ranked SEC squads, followed by Ole Miss (No. 7), Tennessee (No. 11), Kentucky (No. 12), Alabama (No. 13), LSU (No. 17), Texas (No. 18), Missouri (No. 21) and Florida (No. 24).
