Organisers of The Headies have postponed the 18th edition of the Nigerian music awards from October 23, 2026, to April 10 and 11, 2027, in Toronto, Canada.
The organisers announced the change in a statement published on their verified social media platforms, explaining that the adjustment would allow them to expand the pre-award “Road to The Headies” programme in Nigeria and Canada.
The programme is expected to feature workshops, seminars and industry engagements designed to bring together artistes, music professionals and other stakeholders ahead of the main ceremony.
Despite the postponement of the awards night, the organisers said activities scheduled for the original event period would proceed as planned.
The sessions are expected to provide opportunities for participants from the recording and creative industries to interact and discuss issues affecting the sector.
The organisers also apologised to guests, nominees and partners who had already made travel and accommodation arrangements for the October event.
They promised to release revised schedules and updated guidelines for guests through their official communication channels in the coming days.
The Headies is one of Nigeria’s prominent music award platforms, recognising achievements in the country’s music industry.
