Ghana’s Black Queens will look to complete the job against Mauritius when the two sides meet in the second leg of their second-round qualifying tie for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games on Tuesday, October 13.
The Black Queens head into the return fixture with a commanding 3-0 aggregate advantage after securing an emphatic victory in the first leg at the Côte d’Or National Sports Complex in Mauritius.
Abigail Kim opened the scoring in the 16th minute before Alice Kusi doubled Ghana’s lead eight minutes later. Benedicte Simon then added a third goal in the first-half stoppage time to put the visitors firmly in control of the tie.
Mauritius, meanwhile, face a difficult task as they attempt to overturn the three-goal deficit. The visitors will need a significantly improved performance in attack while remaining defensively organised to stand any chance of keeping the tie alive.
For Ghana, the priority will be to manage the aggregate advantage, control the tempo and take their chances when they arise.
The stakes extend beyond this two-legged encounter, with the Black Queens pursuing a historic first qualification for the women's football tournament at the Olympic Games.
Progression would take Ghana into the third round, where they would face the winner of the tie between Uganda and Zambia.
The match is scheduled for 3:00 pm at the Essipong Sports Stadium in Sekondi-Takoradi.
