GOYANG — The Goyang Urban Management Corporation has turned idle assets left over from a corporate remodeling project into equipment for local social welfare facilities, cutting waste while supporting community services. The public-private arrangement returned office goods slated for disposal to the community and saved welfare facilities about 13 million won in spending, in what officials describe as a model case.
The corporation said on the 13th that it had acted as a bridge so that 139 pieces of office furniture and equipment generated during the remodeling of a CJ ENM facility could be donated to and reused by four social welfare facilities in the city.
In April, the corporation learned that office goods in good condition were set to be scrapped at the CJ ENM remodeling site and immediately began surveying demand on the ground. It then identified what each facility needed, mediated talks between the company and the welfare institutions, and completed deliveries of desks, chairs and sofas in stages from May through July.
The four recipients were the Heundol Community Welfare Center, the Ilsan Senior Welfare Center, the Deogyang Senior Welfare Center and the Jichuk Community Welfare Center. The 139 items were worth about 13.3 million won based on the cost of buying them new, sharply reducing the facilities' burden of procuring equipment.
The corporation said the project was significant because it reduced the disposal of idle corporate assets, helping lower carbon emissions, while building a cooperative framework that supports local welfare infrastructure.
"This is a model case of resource circulation in which a company's idle goods were reborn as resources the community needs," an official at the Goyang Urban Management Corporation said. "We will continue administration based on mutual benefit, actively identifying idle resources generated by tenant companies and others and sharing them with the community."
