Charlotte Responds After Disappointing Loss
The Charlotte Hornets delivered an impressive response on Saturday night, defeating the Miami Heat 115-110 at Spectrum Center. Brandon Miller led the way with 34 points, while Dennis Schröder added 25 as Charlotte recovered from a 47 point loss to the Atlanta Hawks the previous night.
The victory improved the Hornets to 2-1 on the young season and gave the team a much-needed boost after a disappointing home opener. Charlotte showed significantly better offensive execution and knocked down 16 three-pointers, helping it build a sizable lead before surviving a late Miami comeback.
For head coach Charles Lee, the performance was an important reminder of what the Hornets can accomplish when their offense finds its rhythm.
Miller Leads Charlotte’s Offensive Attack
Miller bounced back from a difficult shooting performance against Atlanta, finishing with 34 points and seven rebounds. After struggling from the field in the previous game, the young star attacked the basket more aggressively and made 11 of 12 free throws.
Schröder provided another major contribution with 25 points, giving Charlotte a second reliable scoring option. Naz Reid added 23 points, while Grayson Allen finished with 20, including a clutch four-point play late in the fourth quarter.
The Hornets held a 66-58 advantage at halftime before taking control in the third quarter. Charlotte outscored Miami 30-17 during the period, using a barrage of three-pointers to stretch its lead to 92-70.
Five three-pointers helped fuel a decisive 24-7 run, putting the Hornets in position to close out the game comfortably.
However, Miami had other plans.
Heat Rally Falls Just Short
The Heat refused to fold despite trailing by as many as 23 points. Led by Davion Mitchell and Bam Adebayo, Miami mounted a furious fourth quarter comeback that erased Charlotte’s advantage.
Mitchell finished with 22 points and 10 assists, while Adebayo contributed 20 points and eight rebounds. Pelle Larsson added 15 points, and Klay Thompson chipped in 14.
Miami’s rally eventually tied the game at 100, putting Charlotte under pressure after the Hornets had appeared to take complete control. Giannis Antetokounmpo, meanwhile, was limited to 14 points and fouled out with 1:57 remaining, making Miami’s comeback even more difficult.
With the score tied at 104, Allen delivered the biggest shot of the night. He knocked down a contested three-pointer while drawing a foul, then converted the free throw to give Charlotte a 108-104 lead.
The four point play shifted the momentum back to the Hornets, who held on despite one final Miami push.
Hornets Look to Build Momentum
Charlotte’s victory was an important response to Friday’s blowout loss. Miller’s scoring, Schröder’s playmaking and Allen’s late heroics helped the Hornets secure a win that could provide confidence moving forward.
The Hornets will host the Washington Wizards on Monday, looking to build on Saturday’s performance and establish greater consistency early in the season.
