New Delhi, Oct 24: Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi made her debut on social media platform X on Saturday, sharing a video offering a glimpse into her upcoming book about her life and relationship with former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
In the nearly two-minute video, she recalled meeting Rajiv Gandhi in Cambridge, sharing photographs of the couple and the restaurant where they first met.
“In a small Greek restaurant in Cambridge, my journey of love began. Rajiv and I created a world filled with love, laughter and memories. On November 10, I share that world with you,” she wrote in her first post on X.

As the photographs appeared in the video, Sonia Gandhi described Rajiv as good-looking and gentle, recalling how their relationship began after a mutual friend introduced them.
“When I first met him, I felt almost immediately that, you know, he was someone I would really love to be with. And, of course, I learned that it was the same for him,” she said.
Recalling her time as a student in England, she said she often struggled to find food that suited her tastes and was looking for somewhere that served Italian cuisine.
“Food in England in those days was awful. In those days, you didn’t have so many restaurants, you know, like you have today,” she said.
She said she and others eventually discovered the Varsity Restaurant, a Greek eatery frequented by European and Indian students.
“And that is then where I met Rajiv in that very restaurant,” she recalled.
The two subsequently became friends, spending time together at parties, sightseeing outings and a Valentine’s Day party attended by students.
“He was a very gentle-looking person. Of course, he was very good-looking, but that gentleness came through. So that was something which really touched me and struck me. So that, of course, I’ll never forget when I first met him,” she said.
Titled Belonging: A Journey of Love, Sonia Gandhi’s first book recounts her memories of Rajiv Gandhi and traces her journey from her younger days to the present. The book is scheduled to be launched on November 10.
