Texas A&M's future quarterback room isn't quite set, but in the 2028 recruiting class, five-star signal caller and Detroit, Michigan, native Donald Tabron II possesses all the tools to compete for a starting job during his freshman season, unless the Aggies find their next long-term starting option in the transfer portal before the offseason begins.
Current starting quarterback Marcel Reed has thrown for 1,097 yards, six touchdowns, and six interceptions and hasn't improved, while first-year offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins is taking too much blame, even though receivers have been consistently open and the offensive line has struggled in pass protection.
It's clear Marcel Reed isn't the answer, which will force third-year coach Mike Elko to spend a lot of money on a veteran portal quarterback, even though Tabron still has a year of high school football left after this season. If the five-star QB stays committed to the Aggies and signs with the program by next December, he'll bring an elite arm and NFL-level accuracy.
On Friday, Donald Tabron's Detroit Cass Tech team faced Detroit King, and for those who haven't yet seen Tabron's brilliance maneuvering the pocket, his layered throw that hit his wide receiver in stride should excite Aggie fans for the near future.
Cass Tech rallied to defeat Detroit, King 21-20, as Tabron finished 14-of-19 for 111 yards and threw two touchdowns.
What a throw and catch from Donald Tabron to 2029 WR Peyton Robinson.
