The 2026 Inter Security Agencies Sports Festival got underway at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe City Monday.
The five-day event is expected to conclude on Friday.
It has brought together men and women from the Malawi Defence Force (MDF), Malawi Police Service, Malawi Prisons Service and the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services.
Minister of Homeland Security Peter Mukhito said the festival was a good platform for men and women from security institutions to network.
“Let the strongest teams win, but let every participant leave this festival stronger in friendship, discipline and mutual respect,” Mukhito said.
Organising committee chairperson Alfred Matambo said the festival was designed to strengthen working relationships among officers beyond their daily duties.
“The festival is very crucial in promoting networking. This is a good opportunity for security personnel to interact and share ideas,” Matambo said.
This year’s festival is being held under the theme ‘Strength in Unity: Promoting Unity, Wellness, Teamwork and National Development through Sport’.
The security personnel are competing in several sporting codes such as football, netball, basketball, volleyball and pool.
