The Delhi Police has denotified Jantar Mantar as a designated protest venue, with the Ramlila Ground, Burari Ground and CBD Ground in East Delhi designated as the three new sites for protests and demonstrations.
The decision follows the recommendations of a Committee constituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The panel was set up to examine alternative proper venues for citizens’ right to organise protests and demonstrations in place of the existing designated site.
A detailed and revised Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for organising protests at the three venues will be issued separately, according to a notice issued by Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar.
The notice is in partial modification of Standing Order No. L&O/48/22 dated April 28, 2022.
