ADEN — A missile strike targeted Aden International Airport in southern Yemen on Wednesday, shortly after a powerful explosion was heard across the city, amid continued escalation between Yemeni government forces and the Houthi movement.
According to local sources, the explosion occurred in the vicinity of Aden International Airport, raising concerns over renewed attacks on critical civilian infrastructure in the temporary capital of the internationally recognized government.
Meanwhile, the military spokesman for the Houthi group, also known as Ansar Allah, announced that the group had launched a ballistic missile targeting what he described as an operations room inside Badr Military Camp in Aden.
The latest strike comes just days after Yemeni authorities reported that two missiles landed within the grounds of Aden International Airport on Friday evening, approximately 500 meters from a Yemenia Airways aircraft preparing for departure to Cairo. No casualties were reported in that incident.
Earlier on the same day, local sources said three explosions rocked Aden, indicating that the areas surrounding the airport, the adjacent Badr Military Camp, and a facility belonging to the Saudi-led coalition in Al-Buraiqah district had come under attack.
At the time, the Houthi-run version of Yemen's Saba News Agency quoted a military source as saying that the group had targeted a military headquarters and weapons depots inside Badr Camp.
Wednesday's attack follows another strike that targeted the Maashiq Presidential Palace in Aden a day earlier. Yemeni authorities said the attack killed five people and wounded 16 others, including palace guards and civilian employees.
