Greece has opened its online vaccination platform for COVID-19, with the first appointments already scheduled and vaccinations beginning on Monday, 19 October, at existing vaccination centres across the country.
Citizens can book appointments through the government’s emvolio.gov.gr platform.
The vaccination campaign comes as COVID-19 hospital admissions increased in early October. Hospitals across Greece recorded 91 new admissions between 5 and 11 October, compared with 80 during the previous week.
According to guidance from the National Public Health Organisation (EODY), older people and those with underlying medical conditions remain at greater risk of developing severe COVID-19.
Updated COVID-19 vaccine targets XFG variant
For the 2026-2027 season, Greece’s National Vaccination Committee recommends an updated COVID-19 vaccine for people at increased risk of severe illness because of their age, underlying medical conditions or other circumstances.
The recommendations cover:
- People aged 60 and over.
- People aged six months to 59 years with underlying medical conditions or circumstances that increase their risk of severe illness.
- Immunocompromised people.
- Pregnant women with underlying medical conditions that increase their risk of severe illness.
- Healthcare professionals.
The updated vaccine targets the XFG variant.
The committee also recommends an additional dose for people aged 75 and over and for immunocompromised individuals, with a six-month interval after their previous vaccination.
Eligible citizens can arrange their appointments through the national vaccination platform or follow the relevant instructions from health authorities.
