‘Gajab Raat’ is a Hindi suspense thriller that is billed as gritty and unfolds over a single night. It was earlier announced as Ghooskhor Pandat. The title drew criticism, and petitions were filed in the Delhi High Court seeking to stop the release.
Objections centred on linking the word “Pandat” with corruption. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees also raised concerns. The film was renamed before its trailer dropped.
‘Gajab Raat’: One Night, One Cop, One Dirty Case
Official plot details are thin. The story is set over one night in Delhi, and Bajpayee plays a morally grey police officer who can be tempted by money but feels the weight of doing right. The trailer shows him navigating a corrupt case and his own morals.
The central conflict is a cop’s moral dilemma, and the one-night structure suggests a tightly wound, pressure-cooker narrative. I haven’t found any further plot specifics, so I’m not guessing at twists.
Cast and Crew
Manoj Bajpayee as the lead cop
Saqib Saleem, Akshay Oberoi and Divya Dutta
A fifth lead is listed inconsistently. Hollywood Reporter India’s text names Shraddha Das, while another outlet lists Nushrratt Bharuccha.

Who’s Calling the Shots
‘Gajab Raat’ is directed by Ritesh Shah, best known as a screenwriter, in what marks his directorial debut. The film is produced by Neeraj Pandey under his banner Friday Film Works.
The film also reunites Manoj Bajpayee with Pandey, with whom he previously worked on Special 26 and Aiyaari. Details such as the runtime, music director and cinematographer have not yet been announced.
What to Expect When the Clock Strikes
A Flawed Hero
Manoj Bajpayee is an actor who shines in morally ambiguous roles, and this seems to be about a policeman who is being conflicted between greed and morality. From what the trailer shows, he is shown as being tempted by money but also troubled by morality.
Tight Pacing
Single night construction implies increasing tension and brevity of time. The entire plot being confined to a single night in Delhi, there is not much scope for the film to indulge in unnecessary scenes and the viewer needs to react promptly to each decision and revelation.
A strong Ensemble
The supporting cast has solid thriller credentials. Saqib Saleem, Akshay Oberoi and Divya Dutta back Bajpayee, with a fifth lead still listed inconsistently across reports. Together they should give the story enough texture, tension and conflicting loyalties.
Extra Scrutiny
The title controversy may keep the film in the spotlight. After the Delhi High Court petitions and objections from the film body FWICE, the renamed film will likely draw closer attention to its portrayal of policing and corruption when it premieres on Netflix.
