A 31-year-old man has been accused of deliberately ploughing his ute through a barrier close to a major supercars event in Queensland.
Shortly before 9pm on Friday, a Toyota HiLux smashed through a barrier at Surfers Paradise, on the edge of where the Gold Coast 500 event was being held.

It happened at the intersection of the Esplanade and Staghorn Avenue, with the ute allegedly seen driving the wrong way on the road moments before.
The crash saw a 40-year-old security guard taken to hospital for treatment after suffering a suspected broken leg.
“The Toyota is alleged to have been driven deliberately into the barrier, causing it to fall and injure a 40-year-old Labrador man,” Queensland Police said in a statement.
“Members of the public attempted to restrain the driver, a 31-year-old Surfers Paradise man, but he is alleged to have fled the scene prior to police arrival.”
Officers with a dog unit then gave chase, locating the suspect a short while later.
He was apprehended by a police dog, who bit him during the arrest, leading to him also needing hospital treatment.
The incident happened on the peripheries of the Gold Coast 500 race circuit - a three day supercars event held at Surfers Paradise over this weekend.
