Malgaldai, Oct 18: Darrang police busted an illegal sex racket in Kharupetia town on Friday, and held nine individuals including four women.
Sarmistha Baruah, SSP, Darrang, informed the reporters here that acting on reliable information, a raid was conducted by the police at a lodge, namely, ‘Oyo Nexo’, from where the illegal sex racket is allegedly operating.
During the operation, several couples were found in the hotel without proper documents and in suspicious conditions.
They were subsequently brought to Kharupetia police station and during preliminary inquiry, it was revealed that two women were supplied by the hotel authorities to two men for a fixed rate and time.
Baruah said that registers along with several documents concerning the hotel, such as the NOC from the local urban body and F&ES notice to comply with fire safety rules were seized in presence of independent witnesses.
The rooms were also searched and packets of condom were found in almost every room.
The prime accused and the joint owners of the lodge namely Rafik Ali and Banesh Ali, residents of Bhakatpara, are still absconding.
