Drake Maye gets his top weapon back as A.J. Brown returns in a major season boost

In one of the six divisional showdowns set for Week 6 of the NFL season, the New England Patriots (3-2) host the New York Jets (3-2), with New England having dominated the rivalry by winning 13 of the last 15 head-to-head meetings.

The winner will claim second place in the AFC East, trailing only the division-leading Buffalo Bills, whom New England defeated 29-26 in Week 4 during their current two-game winning streak.

Quarterback Drake Maye and the Patriots' offense have shown dramatic improvement since a sluggish start where they scored just 26 total points over their opening three contests. New England's attack has exploded over the past fortnight, putting up 29 points against Buffalo and a season-high 45 points in a blowout win against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Drake Maye and Patriots Prepare to Reincorporate A.J. Brown

Throughout this compelling two-game surge, Maye has returned to the stellar form that saw him finish as the league MVP runner-up in 2025, delivering eight total touchdowns (seven passing, one rushing) against just a single interception.

That production marks a night-and-day transformation from his first three starts of the campaign, where he recorded a lone touchdown pass alongside six costly interceptions.  Now, Maye and the offensive unit receive a monumental boost with the anticipated return of star wideout A.J. Brown for Sunday's clash against New York.

The Patriots surrendered a first-round draft pick to acquire the Pro Bowl receiver during the offseason, but have essentially held him on the field for only one half of action after he suffered an ankle injury during their Week 1 opener against the Seattle Seahawks.

With Maye operating at an elite rhythm, adding Brown back into the starting lineup restores New England’s passing attack near full throttle.

Defensive Reinforcements Arrive for New England Ahead of Crucial October Slate

Further bolstering the reigning AFC champions is the return of star cornerback Christian Gonzalez, who missed New England’s previous two victories and every practice session following their Week 3 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Restoring top-tier talent to both sides of the ball arrives at a pivotal juncture for head coach Mike Vrabel’s squad. Following their home tilt against the Jets, the Patriots face a short turnaround as they travel to take on the Chicago Bears on Thursday Night Football before returning home to face the Miami Dolphins to kick off November.

With Maye playing at a peak level and key cornerstone pieces returning from the training room, New England looks primed to solidify its stance as a primary Super Bowl contender in the conference.
