The victims have been identified as 35-year-old Lionel Logan, a Belize Coast Guard member from Libertad Village, and 35-year-old Julian Dyer, a construction worker from Corozal Town.
According to initial reports, the men were travelling in a black Chevrolet Equinox with several other passengers after leaving a football game in Carolina Village when a black van carrying approximately four men pulled alongside their vehicle. Occupants of the van reportedly opened fire on the SUV, striking both men.
